Agartala, 4th December 2023: Interventional Closure of Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) was successfully completed for the first time at Agartala Government Medical College and GB Pant Hospital.
Cardiologists of the state completed this rare surgery without open heart surgery. The 54-year-old woman, a resident of Pratapgarh in Agartala, had a hole between the upper two chambers of her heart since birth.
As a result she has heart failure and was admitted to Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital. She was having abnormal blood circulation in her heart and she was having heart problems.
Cardiac surgeons at Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital closed her ASD by transcatheter method of interventional closure of atrial septal defect (ASD) without open heart surgery.
The patient was discharged from the Cardiologist Department on December 2, 2023. The patient’s condition is currently stable. The Health Director informed this news in a press release. Consultant Cardiologist, Cardiologist Department Incharge HoD Dr. Anindya Sundar Trivedi, Consultant Cardiologist Unit Dr. Rakesh Das, Anesthesiologist Dr. Surjit Pal, Cardiac Anesthesiologist Dr. Manimoy Debbarma, Cardiology Department Junior Doctor Dr. Arghya Pratim Nath, Dr. Praksha Bose, Dr. Samrat Das were present in this operation. Dr. Prasenjit Nandy, Dr. Asmin Chakma, Cathlab Technician Sanjay Ghosh, Cathlab Nurses Debabrata Debnath and Pranakrishna Deb, Eco Technician Kishan Roy, Coordinator Abhishek Dutta, Jameson Debbarma, Richashree Sarkar and OT Assistants Saurabh Shil, Jayadeep Chakraborty, Jayant Shil and Ratan Mandal were present.
