Agartala, 4th March 2024: The vigilant efforts of the District Child Protection Unit have successfully thwarted an illegal marriage involving a minor in the Purba Ganki area of Khowai. The incident, which transpired on Monday, saw the Child Protection Unit intervening to prevent the marriage and subsequently handing over the minor to the District Child Welfare Committee.
Upon receiving credible information, the dedicated personnel of the District Child Protection Unit visited the residence of the minor girl in Purg ganki. Shockingly, all preparations for the illegal marriage were underway at the minor’s house. The authenticity of the situation was verified by engaging in discussions with the family members, including the minor girl.
According to the guidelines of the Code, marriage before the age of eighteen is strictly illegal. The Child Protection Unit staff, through their persuasive efforts, engaged in a fruitful dialogue with the family members, eventually convincing them of the illegality of the impending marriage. Subsequently, the concerned family members canceled the minor girl’s marriage.
Taking swift action, the Child Protection Unit personnel transported the minor girl from her home to the District Social Welfare and Social Education Office.
