Agartala, 15th May 2024: The Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) or SUCI(C) state committee on Wednesday approached the Medical Superintendent of GB Hospital presenting a deputation with a ten-point charter of demands. The demands underscore the urgency of maintaining an active emergency department and ensuring the availability of clean drinking water at all times within the hospital premises.
Subrata Chakraborty, the district secretary of SUCI(C) expressed deep concerns over the current state of healthcare services. “The services and medical facilities at GB Hospital fall short of the state’s requirements,” Chakraborty stated. He highlighted the plight of critical patients referred from district hospitals, who often face prolonged waiting times without immediate medical attention. “The medical department’s sporadic activity has eroded the public’s trust, compelling them to seek better treatment elsewhere,” he added.
The deputation to the Medical Superintendent was a direct response to these issues, demanding uninterrupted operation of emergency departments, round-the-clock presence of specialist doctors, nurses, and ward boys in each department, and the provision of essential life-saving medicines tailored to patient needs.
“The people’s faith in our state hospitals has diminished, and it is imperative that we restore their confidence by meeting these fundamental demands,” Chakraborty emphasized, calling for immediate action to improve the healthcare system.
