Sudhangshu Das reviews Fisheries department’s progress; Bats to meet demand and production equally

Agartala, April 04, 2023: Fisheries minister Sudhangshu Das on Tuesday chaired a review meeting with officials of the Fisheries department in presence of its Principal Secretary BS Mishra and Director Md Moslem Uddin Ahmed at the Directorate of Fisheries office here.

Speaking to media personnel here, Das said “Prime Minister Narendra Modi, union Home minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda, Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha and party’s state president Rajib Bhattacharjee assigned me with the departments of Fisheries, Animal Resource Development and SC Welfare. Therefore, it is my moral responsibility to work for the people’s welfare.”

“Today I chaired a meeting with the officials of Fisheries department at the Directorate of Fisheries’ premises and reviewed the progress the department. Our focus is to meet the requirement in balancing the demand and production of fish in the state. Through elaborate discussion, strategies to be prepared and work accordingly”, he added.

Claiming that a good quantity of fish is imported from outside the state as the production is insufficient, minister said “The department’s prime objective is to point out the lacunas and address those issues accordingly. The goal should be of becoming self-sufficient in fish production. Reviewing should be done in three-month basis. The deficiencies needs to be detected and chalk out plan to meet the demand.”

Das also said that he will be chairing review meeting with the officials of Animal Resource Development department on Wednesday and SC Welfare department on Thursday next.

He further added “I, principal secretary and director will also visit different offices of the Fisheries department in the coming days.”
