Agartala, 25th June 2025: In a significant stride toward strengthening veterinary infrastructure in North Tripura, Animal Resources Development and Fisheries minister Sudhangshu Das inaugurated the newly constructed District Veterinary Hospital and Medicine Store at Chandrapur, Dharmanagar today.
The facility developed under the initiative of the Animal Resources Development department aims to enhance access to veterinary care, emergency services and medicine distribution across the district. The project valued at approximately Rs 96.87 lakh includes a dedicated drug storage unit and modern treatment infrastructure.
“This hospital will serve as a cornerstone for providing essential veterinary care and safeguarding the health of domestic animals in North Tripura. It will significantly improve access to medical treatment, vaccinations, and emergency care for livestock owners,” said Minister Das during the inauguration.
Highlighting the economic potential of animal husbandry, the minister encouraged farmers and citizens alike to explore avenues such as fish farming citing examples of individuals earning crores of rupees through government-supported schemes. “There is a growing demand for milk, fish, and eggs in the market. The government has launched several schemes to support farmers in increasing production,” he added.
The minister also announced the availability of a toll-free veterinary helpline 1962 enabling emergency home visits by veterinary professionals.
The event was attended by Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen, DM Chandni Chandran, Dharmanagar Municipal Council Chairperson Mitali Rani Das Sen, Fisheries and ARD Secretary Deepa D. Nair and Director Dr. NK Chanchal among others.
Officials emphasized that the hospital aligns with the state’s broader goals of promoting rural livelihoods, ensuring food security, and improving animal healthcare delivery in underserved regions.
