Agartala, 30th October 2025: A meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Scheduled Caste Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das to discuss the implementation of various Central and State Government schemes aimed at the welfare and development of Scheduled Caste (SC) communities in Tripura.
The meeting took place at the Sonartari State Guest House conference hall, with the participation of chairpersons of various sub-committees and senior officials of the department.
During the meeting, Minister Das said that this was the first review session to discuss the roles and responsibilities of different sub-committees in effectively executing the ongoing welfare schemes. He emphasized that the department has been working continuously to improve the economic and social conditions of the Scheduled Caste population in the state and that a positive and result-oriented strategy must be adopted for their further upliftment.
Tripura currently has sub-committees under the Agartala Municipal Corporation, 13 municipal councils, 6 nagar panchayats, and 55 RD (Rural Development) blocks working towards SC welfare. The state is presently implementing 6 Central schemes and 14 State schemes dedicated to the benefit of Scheduled Castes.
In the 2025–26 financial year, a total of 9,728 SC students from Classes VI to VIII have received Pre-Matric Scholarships. Additionally, 32 Scheduled Caste-dominated villages have been selected under the PM-AJAY (Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhuyday Yojana) scheme to be developed as ‘Model Villages’.
To enhance educational outcomes, 116 teachers across 31 hostels are providing coaching in English, Mathematics, and Science for Scheduled Caste students.Minister Das concluded that the department remains committed to ensuring that every welfare initiative reaches the grassroots level, empowering Scheduled Caste communities and fostering inclusive development across Tripura.
