Agartala, 7th February 2025 : Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee organized a protest rally in Agartala today, condemning the alleged mistreatment and humiliation faced by illegal Indian immigrants being deported from the United States.
Speaking to the media, Ashish Kumar Saha, President of the Pradesh Congress Committee, emphasized that the party is staging protests across India to address the inhumane treatment of Indian nationals by the US authorities.
“The manner in which US President Donald Trump treated our citizens is completely unacceptable. It is a disgrace to India and its people on the global stage. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on this matter is troubling. The Indian government’s failure to issue a statement suggests tacit approval of these actions. We want to know why PM Modi is not speaking out. It is unjust to treat individuals, who left India in search of better opportunities, in this manner. The Congress party strongly protests against the lack of leadership shown by PM Modi in defending the dignity of our people,” Saha said.
Congress MLA and former minister Sudip Roy Barman, who participated in the protest, further criticized the BJP for diverting attention with rallies while India and its citizens were insulted by the US.
“We have never had a Prime Minister as shameless and cowardly as Narendra Modi. The way he has handled the humiliation of India and its people by the US speaks volumes. The public is now demanding that he step down. Countries like Mexico and Colombia have taken a stand against Trump’s actions, yet in India, citizens who had been in the US for over two decades were sent back in disgrace, treated like cargo. This is unacceptable,” Roy Barman stated.
