Agartala, 3rd June 2025:  Tripura Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman has raised serious allegations of corruption and irregularities in recruitment at Tripura University, accusing the officiating Vice Chancellor Prof. Ganga Prasad Prasain and Registrar Dr. Deepak Sharma of gross misconduct. In a letter addressed to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the veteran legislator demanded the immediate formation of a High-Level Inquiry Committee with independent powers to investigate alleged anomalies in appointments made over the past year.

Roy Barman alleged that the university, once a symbol of academic excellence, has descended into a state of moral decay and administrative collapse under the current leadership. “The tenure of Prof. Prasain and Dr. Sharma has become a tale of corruption, nepotism, and betrayal of the foundational values of higher education,” he wrote.

According to the MLA, interviews for faculty positions in the Departments of Law, Sociology, and Sanskrit have been scheduled for June 8–9, 2025, in blatant violation of University Grants Commission (UGC) norms. He pointed out that the executive powers of the current Vice Chancellor had already been withdrawn, and a fresh recruitment process for the next VC was underway — making such appointments unauthorized.

Roy Barman further alleged that the university’s recruitment process for both teaching and non-teaching posts over the last year has been marred by blatant favoritism and irregularities. “Unqualified and ineligible outsiders have been recruited in large numbers, pushing aside deserving candidates from Tripura,” he claimed, adding that only 4–5 local applicants were selected, while more than 30 outsiders secured jobs.

He also alleged that Prof. Prasain had appointed his own son as an engineer at the university, bypassing qualified local candidates. “Reports suggest that faculty appointments are being handed out to individuals with alleged political backing from RSS and senior BJP leaders,” he added.

Demanding immediate action, Roy Barman urged Minister Pradhan to suspend both the VC and the Registrar and halt all ongoing recruitment until an impartial inquiry is completed. “Contracts have been signed, high-value purchases made, and rules grossly flouted. An independent probe is imperative to restore credibility and fairness at Tripura University,” he concluded.
