Sukanta Bhattacharya’s birth centenary celebrations Begin at Belonia on World Poetry Day

Agartala, 21st March 2026:   . Belonia, South Tripura witnessed the dignified inauguration of year-long programmes marking the birth centenary of renowned young poet Sukanta Bhattacharya. The celebrations commenced today coinciding with the observance of World Poetry Day.

The inaugural ceremony themed “Alor Pathojatri” (Traveler of Light), was formally opened by retired Justice and noted writer Ashish Pal. The event was graced by MLA Dipankar Sen, eminent litterateur Ashokananda Raybardhan, and several distinguished personalities.

Held at Belonia Public Library at 3 p.m., the programme paid tribute to Sukanta’s revolutionary spirit and human-centric poetry. A poets’ conference formed a key part of the event, where participants recited self-composed verses, carrying forward Sukanta’s ideals to the younger generation.

The Sukanta Birth Centenary Celebration Committee, Belonia, South Tripura has announced a year-long series of events. Convenor Chandan Pal extended an open invitation to poets and literature enthusiasts to join the commemorations.

Through this initiative, Sukanta Bhattacharya’s fiery poetic vision is expected to inspire society with renewed light and hope.
