Agartala, November 27: The West Tripura District Youth Festival was inaugurated today at Birendranagar Higher Secondary School in Jirania subdivision by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy. Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury was also present as the chief guest in the event, which was attended by the youth of various blocks, Agartala Municipal Corporation, Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayat areas of the district.
The Tourism minister urged the youth community to play a leading role in the overall development of the country and state. He said that if the youth community is more involved in cultural activities and sports, the country and the state will be prosperous. He also said that the youth festival will play a supporting role in keeping the youth away from the grip of addiction.
The Sports minister said that the talent of young men and women should be developed to make Tripura self-reliant. He said that youth festivals have a role to play in making the youth culturally minded. He also said that the government has given priority to the development of culture and sports. He said that the aim of the government is to build one Tripura, the best Tripura, and that this goal can only be achieved if the youth power is properly harnessed.
The event featured competitions on ensemble folk music, ensemble folk dance, solo folk music, solo folk dance, story writing, recitation, photography and poster making. The winners of the competitions will be awarded prizes and certificates. The event also witnessed cultural performances by the participants and local artists.
The inauguration ceremony was also addressed by MLA Swapna Debnath, Director of Youth Affairs and Sports Department Satyabrata Nath, Acting Sabhadipati of Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad Haridulal Acharya, Vice Chairman of Jirania Panchayat Samiti Pritam Debnath and others. Jirania Sub-division SDM Shantiranjan Chakma delivered the welcome speech and Ratan Kumar Das, chairperson of Jirania Nagar Panchayat gave vote of thanks.
