Agartala, 21st November 2025:   Emphasizing the need for public awareness and ethical practices in trade, Tripura Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury today said that accurate measurement and honest transactions are vital to the state’s development. He was speaking at a “discussion cycle” on Laws of Legal Metrology, organized in a private hotel in the capital.

He urged both consumers and sellers to uphold integrity and remain vigilant about the accuracy of weights and measures used in daily trade.

The session focused on recent amendments to the Legal Metrology Act and Rules, as well as the Government of India’s future roadmap for strengthening the sector. Chowdhury reiterated the Tripura government’s commitment to reinforcing consumer protection mechanisms through rigorous enforcement of legal metrology standards.

A wide range of officials and industry stakeholders attended the event, including Debapriya Vardhan, Secretary of the Food, Public Procurement and Consumer Affairs Department; Ashutosh Agarwal, Director of Consumer Affairs and Legal Metrology, Government of India; and Dr. Rajeshwar Kumar, Director of the Indian Institute of Legal Metrology.
