Agartala, 7th November 2023: Transport Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury, announced the launch of a cashless system in the state’s transport department to enhance transparency and convenience for citizens. During a press conference, Minister Chowdhury emphasized that the Central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had introduced this cashless initiative, and Tripura was following suit.

“In a video conference attended by District Magistrates, SBI Officials, and other district transport officials, we officially inaugurated the cashless system in the Transport Department across all eight districts of the state today. This move is aimed at ensuring transparency and facilitating a hassle-free experience for the public,” stated the minister.

He mentioned that the cashless system had initially been implemented in West District in August as a pilot project. Encouraged by the positive response and public adoption, the decision was made to extend it to the remaining seven districts. All transactions within the transport department will now be conducted through cashless methods, including the use of ATM cards and UPI.

Minister Chowdhury also highlighted the significant role played by the transport department in revenue tax collection for the previous fiscal year. “In the financial year 2022-23, a total of Rs 115 crores 63 lakhs was deposited in the state government’s treasury. The Transport Department has set a target to deposit Rs 125 crore in the state treasury in the coming days, and the implementation of the cashless system will be instrumental in achieving this goal. In the fiscal year 2021-22, the department contributed Rs 92.83 crore, and Rs 87.93 crore in the 2020-21 fiscal year,” he added.
