Sushanta Pushes for Direct Agartala–Mumbai Flights to Strengthen Connectivity and Growth

Date:

Agartala, 2nd June 2026:   Seeking a major boost in air connectivity, Tripura Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has appealed to Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu to introduce a direct flight service between Agartala and Mumbai.

In his letter, Chowdhury recalled his earlier correspondence dated March 16, 2025, as well as discussions held with the Union Minister in December 2025 regarding the pressing need for enhanced air links between Tripura and India’s financial capital.

Highlighting Tripura’s strategic importance in the Northeast, the Minister emphasized that stronger connectivity with major metropolitan centres is essential for the state’s economic and social development. Mumbai, he noted, remains a crucial destination for the people of Tripura owing to its prominence in business, healthcare, education, tourism, and employment opportunities.

At present, travelers between Agartala and Mumbai are forced to rely on connecting flights, often facing long layovers and inconvenient travel schedules. This, Chowdhury said, creates significant challenges for students, patients seeking medical treatment, business travelers, and government officials.

“A direct flight between Agartala and Mumbai would not only reduce travel time and inconvenience but also serve as a catalyst for trade, investment, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges,” the Minister stated.

Urging the Civil Aviation Ministry to take proactive steps, Chowdhury requested the introduction of a non-stop flight service between the two cities. Alternatively, he sought more seamless connectivity through better-coordinated flight schedules under existing policy frameworks.

Expressing confidence in the Union Minister’s support, Chowdhury said that improved air connectivity would play a vital role in accelerating Tripura’s socio-economic progress while further integrating the state with the rest of the country.
