Agartala, September 24: A statue of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore, the Nobel laureate poet and writer, was inaugurated on Sunday morning at Agartala Municipal Council Ward No. 21 on the south bank of Banmalipur Dighi. The statue was installed by the local residents with the support of the Municipal Corporation.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Subal Kumar Dey, the editor of Syandan newspaper and Syandan TV, Dipak Majumder, the mayor of AMC, and Rajib Bhattacharjee, a philanthropist. The guests paid their respects by offering floral tributes to the statue of Kabiguru.

Subal Kumar Dey, the editor of Syandan newspaper and Syandan TV, urged the people to maintain a healthy environment in the area. He called for a drug-free Tripura and said that the area around Banmalipur pond used to be a hotspot for drug dealers, but it was now closed due to police patrolling. He said that the government could declare this area drug-free if it wanted, as it was completely free from drugs. He also expressed his opinion that the people of every area could build a drug-free society by helping the local police.

Mayor Majumder said that the Municipal Corporation was working for the overall beautification of the city and addressing the problems of the residents. He said that the local residents had demanded to install a statue of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore, who had visited Tripura several times and composed novels and songs in the state. He said that the main purpose of erecting the statue was to inspire the new generation to learn about Kabiguru and his contributions. He also said that it would be good if the residents informed the Municipal Corporation about their suggestions and feedback on how and where to work in the city area, as it would enhance the beauty of the city and benefit the people.
