Tapan Lodh Clings to TCA Chair Ignoring Rules

Date:

Agartala, 28th May 2026:    What is so attractive about the post in the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) that its president, Tapan Lodh, is allegedly continuing in office by disregarding the directives of the country’s highest court? This question is now echoing across Tripura’s cricketing circles.

To ensure transparency and accountability in cricket administration, the Justice Lodha Committee, appointed by the Supreme Court of India, had clearly stipulated that no individual above the age of 70 can hold an administrative position in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) or any of its affiliated state associations. However, allegations have surfaced that current TCA president Tapan Lodh has already crossed the age limit of 70 but continues to remain in office.

The issue has triggered strong resentment among members of the cricket fraternity, who are questioning why other office-bearers of the TCA have remained silent despite what they describe as a clear violation of Supreme Court guidelines.

Questions are also being raised over whether Tapan Lodh is considered so indispensable to the association that no one is willing to remove him from the post. While he himself may be unwilling to step down, critics argue that the governing body of cricket in the state should not be encouraging what they term an “illegal continuation” in office.

On Thursday, during a press conference organized by the Tripura Cricket Association at a prominent hotel in the city, Tapan Lodh was seen sharing the stage alongside IPL officials, further fuelling the controversy.

Cricket enthusiasts believe that adherence to Supreme Court directives is mandatory for maintaining transparency and integrity in cricket administration. They argue that the alleged violation of the age-limit rule within the TCA amounts to defiance of court-mandated reforms.

Demands are now growing louder for immediate resolution of the legal controversy and restoration of transparent governance in the Tripura Cricket Association.
