Manik Sarkar accuses BJP of targeting CPI(M) through central agencies

Date:

Agartala, 28th May 2026:   . Protesting the recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid at the residence of Kerala’s former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the West Tripura District Committee of the CPI(M) organized a protest rally across Agartala city on Thursday afternoon. The demonstration witnessed the participation of a large number of party workers and supporters.

The rally was led by former Tripura Chief Minister and former CPI(M) Politburo member Manik Sarkar, former Minister Manik Dey, senior CPI(M) leader Pabitra Kar, and several other party functionaries. The procession moved through various important streets of the city before culminating in a protest meeting.

Addressing the gathering, former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar alleged that the BJP and Congress consider the CPI(M) their principal political adversary, particularly because Kerala remains one of the strongest bases of the Marxist party in the country. He claimed that attempts are being made to weaken the CPI(M) in Kerala with the broader intention of curbing the party’s nationwide movement.

Sarkar accused the ruling dispensation of misusing central agencies such as the ED and CBI for political purposes. He stated that elections cannot be sustained through intimidation, manipulation, or the alleged misuse of investigative agencies. According to him, the CPI(M) may appear politically weakened at present, but its ideology and principles remain intact.

He further asserted that the party would continue to strengthen its connection with the people by addressing public concerns and expanding its grassroots presence. Sarkar said the CPI(M) would not be silenced through arrests or pressure tactics and described the alleged attempt to target Kerala’s former Chief Minister as an example of “authoritarianism” and “neo-fascism.”

He also alleged that the RSS-led BJP aims to suppress opposition voices across the country, but maintained that the CPI(M) would continue its struggle against such actions.
