Agartala, 22nd May 2025:  The Tripura Commission for Women has taken swift action following reports of alleged physical and mental abuse inflicted by Tuton Biswas, son of Bhajan Biswas upon his mother, Lakshmi Biswas. The incident took place near Kanchanmala SB School under the Golaghati assembly constituency.

Sources informed that Tuton Biswas had been subjecting his mother to prolonged abuse culminating in an alleged assault and eviction from their home a few days back. Once the matter was publicized in the media, it drew immediate attention from the Women’s Commission, which subsequently notified Amtali Police Station. Acting on the report, police officials visited Lakshmi Biswas’ residence yesterday to assess the situation.

Today, Tripura Commission for Women Chairperson Jharna Debbarma accompanied by commission members visited the victim’s home to conduct a direct inquiry. However, Lakshmi Biswas was found absent. The commission then spoke with local residents, who corroborated reports of repeated mistreatment.

Chairperson Jharna Debbarma condemned the incident, stating that such abuse will not be tolerated, and assured that necessary actions will be taken. Meanwhile, the Sadar Subdivision Administration has also initiated an investigation, with legal proceedings expected against the accused.
