Agartala, 6th September 2024: The Tripura Commission for Women (TCW) on Friday reported that among 444 cases registered in the last four months, 47 have been settled.
During a press conference, TCW Chairperson Jharna Debbarma stated that the Commission has undertaken various initiatives to address 22 types of crimes, including domestic violence, torture, prostitution, rape, kidnapping, and family disputes. She also emphasized that the Commission is working towards the empowerment of women.
“The Commission has taken steps to raise public awareness across the state to prevent incidents like the brutal attack at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. Under the Rashtriya Poshan Mah Abhiyan project, the Commission will organize camps in Khowai district on September 11, Unakoti district on September 18, the North District on September 25, and at the Central Correctional Center on September 20,” she stated.
An awareness camp on cybercrime will be held at Muktadhara Hall on October 4, and a counseling camp will take place at Dharmanagar Circuit House from September 24 to 26.
Debbarma further mentioned that during the recent floods, relief materials were distributed to many flood victims across the state by the Commission.
In her presentation of the statistics from April to July of the current financial year, the Chairperson disclosed that women were called for counseling in 444 cases during this period.
“In 153 cases, both parties appeared, and out of these, 47 cases were settled. Additionally, 37 cases from seven districts, excluding the West District, were called for counseling. Of these, 9 were resolved. Legal action was recommended in 63 cases, 40 cases were put on hold, 3 individuals were referred to shelter homes, and 14 cases were forwarded to the Tripura State Legal Services Authority. A total of 20 suo moto cases were registered,” she explained.
In the financial year 2023-24, a total of 1,356 cases were registered for counseling related to 22 different reasons.
