Agartala, 17th March 2025:   A teacher has reportedly died by suicide due to alleged mental harassment by his wife and mother-in-law. The incident took place in the Batadola area under Sonamura Police Station.

It is reported that a teacher Rupankar Das from Batadola in Sonamura was married to Tania Das, the daughter of TSR officer Shankar Das from Palpara, Melaghar. The couple has a four-month-old child.

Allegations suggest that Rupankar Das faced persistent mental harassment from his wife and mother-in-law. They reportedly pressured him to separate from his parents and establish a new household elsewhere, leading to frequent disputes.

It has been learned that Tania Das is currently staying at her parental home in Palpara, Melaghar. A heated argument over the phone regarding these issues allegedly pushed Rupankar Das to take the extreme step. He was found hanging in his room.

At present, his body is at Melaghar Hospital and it will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination.
