Agartala, 3rd September 2026 : A special programme titled ‘Tech Talk: Meet the Scholar’ was organised at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala to promote research, innovation and interest in modern technology among college students. The event was jointly organised by the State Biotechnology Council and the Directorate of Biotechnology.
Teachers and students from colleges across Tripura participated in the programme. Discussions focused on strengthening College Biotech Clubs, which have been established with financial support from the Department of Biotechnology, while encouraging students to explore biotechnology applications in agriculture, healthcare and environmental conservation.
Several research areas were highlighted, including the use of tilapia in aquaculture, maintaining crop quality, diagnosing tooth decay through salivary molecule analysis, producing quality vermicompost and using engineering technology to prevent riverbank erosion.
During the first session, Dr. Bidhan Goswami, Professor of Matrix College, Agartala, and Dr. Ujjwal Pariya Das, Professor of Ramthakur College, presented their research and projects and urged students to take greater interest in scientific research and emerging technologies.
The programme was inaugurated by State Minister for Science, Technology and Environment Animesh Debbarma, who stressed the need to encourage young researchers in biotechnology. He also released a book featuring technologies developed through College Biotech Clubs.
Joint Director of Biotechnology Anjan Sengupta, college professors, officials of the Biotechnology Directorate and Council, and a large number of students attended the event. A psychology-based quiz competition was also organised, with prizes presented to the winners.
The programme highlighted the state’s efforts to connect young students with research, innovation and emerging technologies.
