Agartala, February 10: A large area of Ward No. 12 under Teliamura Municipal Council, which has been plagued by flooding for the past 50 years, is finally getting relief from the water woes. Thanks to the special efforts of the current municipal administration, a long drain is being constructed to prevent submergence of houses and roads during the monsoon season.
The residents of the area have been suffering from the lack of proper drainage system for decades, as the previous left government and its city panchayat and municipal administrations failed to address their demands. The situation changed in 2018, when the government of the state changed and Teliamura Municipal Council was formed under the management of the present government.
The new municipal council, led by Chairman Rupak Sarkar, took the initiative to construct a long drain with the support of Teliamura Assembly Constituency MLA Kalyani Saha Roy. The construction work started with the aim of completing it before the next monsoon, and is expected to be finished within the next few days.
Once the drain is completed, the entire area will be free from water flooding during monsoons forever, ending the 50 years of deprivation and misery for the locals. The residents of the area have expressed their gratitude and happiness to the municipal council and the MLA for their timely intervention and action.
