Agartala, June 6, 2023: In a landmark development, the highly sought-after organic pineapples of the ‘Queen’ variety, grown in Teliamura’s Sadurkarkari Para, have made their way to the bustling markets of Delhi. This marks the first-ever shipment of 1000 organic pineapples purchased by SIMFED (State Level Agency for Value Addition and Marketing of Agricultural Products) from the Khasrang Organic Producer Company Limited, at a cost of Rs. 15 per pineapple.

Under the Organic Value Chain Development Mission-North Eastern Project, the cultivation of organic pineapples in the Khowai district has achieved a significant milestone. Serving as a service provider for the export of these organic fruits, SIMFED has played a crucial role in ensuring the successful transportation of the produce to the national capital.

The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has been actively supporting Farmer Producer Companies, such as the Khasrang Organic Producer Company Limited, in their organic pineapple cultivation endeavors. This assistance has facilitated the growth of the organic value chain, contributing to the development of sustainable agricultural practices in the region.

As a result of this, the farmers belonging to Khasrang Organic Producer Company Limited of Sadurkarkari Para of Teliamura Agricultural Subdivision came forward in organic pineapple cultivation. They are assisted in various ways from Teliamura Agricultural Sub-division. As a result, there has been a greater interest in pineapple cultivation among farmers.

Apart from this, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has also taken initiatives to market the produce to bring forward those farmers who were economically backward by cultivating pineapple for a long time.

SIMFED will purchase pineapples from farmers in each district and send them to markets outside the state and even abroad. SIMFED authority in-charge Jan Vikash Tripura said that from now SIMFED will play a supporting role in sending pineapples to Delhi every week.
