Agartala, 22nd April 2026: Political unrest continues to escalate across Tripura following the announcement of the Autonomous District Council (ADC) election results, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleging widespread violence and intimidation by sections of the newly elected Tipra Motha party.
According to BJP leaders, party workers and supporters have been subjected to repeated attacks, threats, and vandalism. Several homes of BJP activists have reportedly been targeted, forcing many to flee their residences due to safety concerns. The situation has been particularly volatile in the 28-Shilachhari–Manubankul ADC constituency under Sabroom subdivision, where BJP secured victory.
Local sources indicate that disturbances have spread to marketplaces and public areas, disrupting trade and daily life. Incidents of arson and vandalism at multiple BJP party offices have further heightened tensions.
In response, BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee visited the affected areas, inspecting damaged offices and meeting with local leaders and victims. Speaking to the media, Bhattacharjee urged party members to maintain restraint but warned that legal action would be pursued against those involved in violent acts. “No one will be spared,” he asserted.
Authorities have stepped up surveillance to restore order, though concerns remain over the fragile law-and-order situation. The unfolding events underscore how post-election intolerance can destabilize public life, raising questions about how swiftly the administration and political leadership can act to normalize conditions.
