Agartala, 31st January 2026:    A theft incident in Karimpara, under Laxminagar Gram Panchayat’s Ward No. 3 in Dharmanagar subdivision of North Tripura, has sparked widespread tension and unrest. Villagers allege that after handing over the accused thief to police, they are now facing threats and false cases from the accused’s family.

Local sources informed, on the evening of January 26, a theft occurred at the residence of Nazim Uddin in Karimpara. Taking advantage of the homeowner’s absence, local resident Zakir Hossain, son of Abdul Hannan, allegedly stole around Rs 20,000 in cash along with other valuables. While attempting to flee, he was spotted by villager Nuruj Ali. Residents quickly gathered, detained the accused, and handed him over to Churaibari police.

Police later produced Zakir Hossain before the Dharmanagar District and Sessions Court, from where he was released on bail. Following his release, villagers claim Zakir and his father began openly threatening the victim, local representatives, and those who had led the effort to catch him. Allegations also surfaced that false cases were filed at Churaibari police station against 5–7 villagers.

In response, residents of Karimpara gathered on Saturday morning to collect mass signatures and submitted a written complaint to Churaibari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Debabrata Biswas, demanding justice.

Villagers say the accused and his father are attempting to implicate innocent people through intimidation. Fearing further harassment, they turned to the police for protection. Authorities have assured the community that a fair and impartial investigation will be conducted.

Meanwhile, the incident has created an atmosphere of fear and tension across Karimpara. Normal life has been disrupted, with anxiety and unrest prevailing throughout the area.
