Tension erupts again at Bagmara fertilizer godown; Workers attacked amid factional feud

Agartala, 3rd March 2026:   The fertilizer godown under Tepania Agriculture Subdivision has once again turned into a flashpoint of unrest. This time, innocent workers bore the brunt of factional clashes within the ruling party.

Reportedly, a contractor from Udaipur had begun repairing the old building of the Bagmara fertilizer godown after receiving work orders from the Executive Engineer’s office in Gokulpur. From the outset, questions were raised locally about the quality of work, and allegations surfaced that deliberate obstructions were being created to stall the repairs.

As tensions escalated, local MLA Rampada Jamatia personally intervened to review the situation. However, his involvement failed to bring about a lasting solution.

On Tuesday afternoon, matters took a violent turn. A group of youths allegedly attacked the workers engaged in the repair work. Victims Ranjana Bibi, Tasleema Begum, and mason Pintu Sarkar claimed that a man named Bapan Ghosh led the assault. Alongside physical assault, two mobile phones and cash were reportedly snatched. The repair work came to a halt immediately after the incident.

Upon receiving information, the MLA alerted police, and officers from Radhakishorepur Police Station reached the spot, detaining Bapan Ghosh. Injured mason Pintu Sarkar is currently undergoing treatment at Gomati District Hospital.

Questions, however, are being raised over administrative silence. Despite the attack occurring at an agriculture department facility, no senior official from the Udaipur Agriculture Department was seen at the site. Locals allege that political factionalism and administrative inaction have once again left Bagmara in turmoil.

Residents fear that ordinary workers are repeatedly becoming scapegoats in the ruling party’s internal disputes. What was meant to be a center of development—the Bagmara fertilizer godown—now appears to have turned into a battleground for power struggles.
