Agartala, 6th August 2024: The political scenario in North Tripura district has intensified following allegations of intimidation by a CPIM panchayat samiti candidate. The incident has sparked widespread concern took place at Ichai Lalchara Ward No. 3 under Kadamtala police station.
According to reports, at approximately 9:30 AM on Monday last, the CPIM candidate for Kalachhara Panchayat Samiti and son of former CPIM minister Faizur Rahman, Badrul Islam allegedly confronted Mantar Ali, a BJP supporter and resident of Ward No. 3 of Lalchara Village Panchayat. Islam is accused of pressuring Ali to vote for the CPIM party, threatening him with assault if he refused.
Mantar Ali, fearing for his safety filed a written complaint with the Kadamtala police station. In his complaint, Ali demanded protection for himself and the arrest of the accused. “I was alone on the street when Badrul Islam approached me and threatened me to vote for the CPIM. He said if I didn’t comply, I would be attacked at my home,” Ali stated.
The OC of Kadamtala Police Station confirmed receipt of the complaint and assured a thorough investigation. “We have received a written complaint from Mantar Ali. We will investigate the matter and take appropriate action based on the findings,” the OC said.
The incident has created a palpable tension in the Ichai Lalchara area, with residents expressing their concerns over the safety and fairness of the upcoming elections. Despite the Election Commission’s efforts to ensure secure and peaceful polls, incidents like these cast a shadow over the electoral process.
As the investigation takes place, the political atmosphere in North Tripura district remains charged, with both CPIM and BJP supporters closely monitoring the developments.
