Agartala, 27th January 2025:   Tension has once again flared at the India-Bangladesh international border in Kailashahar. Bangladeshi nationals allegedly entered the zero point and attacked Indian nationals, resulting in the death of two individuals and leaving two others critically injured.

It is reported that the Indian nationals have land at the zero point on the other side of Gate No. 44 of the border in the Hirachara area, under the jurisdiction of the Irani police station in Kailashahar. Indian nationals cultivate paddy and betel leaves in these areas, which are monitored by the Battalion No. 199 BSF.

Karim Ali, a resident of Ward No. 3 of Irani Gram Panchayat, and his brother Jamir Ali, a resident of Ward No. 1 of Hirachara ADC Village, are farmers who regularly sign in the BSF register at Gate No. 44 before entering the India-Bangladesh international border at Zero Point to tend to their land. On January 26, at 8 am, they followed their usual routine but discovered that a significant portion of their betel leaves and paddy had been destroyed.

Karim Ali recounted, “On our way home after a day of cultivation, ten to twelve Bangladeshi citizens attacked us with sharp sticks, iron rods, and other weapons. They cut my left hand and back and struck Jamir on the head and back.”

The attackers fled, leaving the brothers in a critical state. Relatives rushed them to Unkoti District Hospital, where doctors reported that Karim Ali’s left hand would require amputation. Both brothers remain in critical condition.

Karim Ali emphasized, “All the attackers were Bangladeshi citizens. The BSF jawans were guarding Gate No. 44, but the incident site is not visible from the gate.”

The police from Irani police station arrived at the hospital to investigate the incident. This attack follows a series of tensions, including an incident on January 7 where Bangladeshi citizens allegedly beat up BSF jawans and attempted to seize their weapons. Additionally, the Bangladesh government recently constructed a dam on the India-Bangladesh international border in the Devipur area, prompting a protest march by the Congress party on January 25.

The recent attack on the two Indian farmers has further escalated tensions at the India-Bangladesh international border in Kailashahar.
