Agartala, 18th October 2025:   Members of the Tripura Government Teachers’ Association (H.B. Road) and the Tripura Private Teachers’ Association marched to the Education Directorate at Shiksha Bhavan here, demanding action against a recent Supreme Court ruling that could jeopardize the careers of over 25 lakh teachers nationwide.

The demonstration, announced earlier by the Tripura Government Teachers’ Association (H.B. Road), culminated in a public meeting outside the Education Directorate. Leaders of the association cited the Supreme Court’s 1 September verdict, which mandates that teachers with more than five years of service must pass the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) within two years to retain their jobs. Those failing to do so would be compelled to retire. Additionally, teachers with less than five years of service must clear the TET to qualify for promotions.

Protesters argued that the ruling places an undue burden on educators and threatens job security across the country. Several states have already filed review petitions challenging the verdict, and the Tripura Government Teachers’ Association urged the state government to follow suit.

A delegation from the protest submitted a formal deputation to the Director of the Education Department, calling on the Tripura government to oppose the ruling and file a review petition in the Supreme Court. The associations emphasized that such a move is essential to safeguard the future of thousands of teachers in the state.
