Theft at Melaghar Bazaar

Date:

By TC News Desk

Agartala, 31st January 2025:   In a brazen act of theft, a group of thieves targeted a shop in Melaghar Bazaar climbing onto the roof, breaking the roof door and descending the stairs to steal goods. The incident took place at Smriti Varieties shop, located adjacent to the main road and Thakurpara Chowmuhani.

Despite the presence of market guards, thefts continue to plague Melaghar Bazaar, raising questions about the effectiveness of the market committee and the guards. Traders, who pay for the guard services monthly, are increasingly frustrated by the frequent thefts. Some have even speculated about a possible collusion between the guards and the thieves.

The latest theft saw goods worth approximately Rs 1 lakh stolen from Smriti Varieties, a shop that has been in business for 40 years without previous incidents. The police from Melaghar police station have investigated the scene, but the market committee has yet to respond.
