Agartala, 31st March 2025: Police have recovered stolen construction materials worth crores of rupees from the under-construction addiction treatment center in Bishramganj Bazar. The recovery operation took place this afternoon in Melaghar Palpara with raids jointly conducted by Bishramganj and Melaghar police stations. The materials, including rods and cement were retrieved from six houses and ponds in the area including the residence of the center’s supervisor Pankaj Das and his brother Tapas Das.
The construction of the addiction treatment center, inaugurated by Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha has been marred by allegations of theft involving its supervisor Pankaj Das. Das reportedly siphoned off government construction materials to build houses and sell rods to local buyers including Samir Pal. Upon learning of the impending police raid, he fled the area.
Police officials later recovered rods from the construction work and brought them back under administrative custody. Local residents have accused Das of prior involvement in theft, expressing frustration over his actions that have brought disrepute to the subdivision and Melaghar Palpara.
Officials from the addiction treatment center have filed a formal complaint at Bishramganj Police Station against Das for misappropriating government materials. Investigations are ongoing.
