Agartala, 11th May 2025:  The traditional seven-day Baisakhi fair in Amarpur is in full swing drawing crowds in celebration. However, the joyous atmosphere was disrupted on the second day of the event when a theft took place in the Govinda Tilla area under Birganj police station.

According to reports, a group of unidentified thieves broke into a residence, taking advantage of its solitude while the occupants were away. The culprits fled with Rs 30,000 in cash, four bags of silver jewelry and various household items leaving the homeowner devastated.

Local authorities had previously warned residents to remain vigilant and avoid leaving their homes unattended during the fair. Despite these repeated advisories, theft groups have reportedly become active, exploiting the festive excitement.

The sub-divisional police administration has reiterated its appeal for residents to take necessary precautions to prevent further incidents. Meanwhile, celebrations continue, with fairgoers indulging in the spirit of joy and festivity, even as concerns over security linger.

Police efforts to track down the perpetrators are underway. Authorities urge residents to report any suspicious activities and remain cautious as the fair proceeds.
