Agartala, 7th June 2025: Takarjala police arrested a man in connection with an attempted theft near the residence of former MLA Birendra Kishore Debbarma in Shyamnagar, Jampuijala block while another suspect fled the scene.
Reportedly, early this morning, two individuals one identified as Tapas Debbarma, a resident of Golaghati allegedly arrived at the location in a vehicle bearing registration number TR07A-0571 with the intent to steal rubber sheets. Local residents, suspicious of their movements intercepted them leading to the arrest of Debbarma, while his accomplice managed to escape.
Following the incident, Takarjala police took Debbarma into custody and presented him before the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Court this afternoon. Authorities have noted a rising trend of thefts across both plains and hilly regions, attributing many such crimes to substance addiction, which reportedly fuels financial desperation among certain criminal groups.
Police continue their investigation to apprehend the fugitive suspect and uncover further details related to the incident.
