Agartala, 4th June 2025: In a startling incident that has raised serious concerns over security measures, a gang of thieves broke into the Jampuijala Press Club late last night taking away crucial documents, chairs, tables and electrical appliances. The incident came to light when journalists Laxman Debbarma, Salkeshang Debbarma and Yadib Debbarma arrived at the office this morning, only to find a broken door and an empty room.
The theft has sparked outrage, particularly given the press club’s proximity within 200 meters to several government offices and security establishments, including CRPF Company B140 Camp, the Jampuijala SDM’s office, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer’s office, and the 7th Battalion of TSR headquarters. Despite such a dense concentration of law enforcement offices, the thieves managed to execute the raid undetected, leading to questions about the effectiveness of police patrolling in the area.
Journalists have expressed grave concerns over the incident, arguing that if their offices are not secure, the vulnerability of other institutions is inevitable. Intellectuals have also weighed in, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive assessment of security lapses in the region.
Upon finding the burglary, journalists promptly informed the local police station, urging immediate action. Upazila Press Club President Amir Hossain, Secretary Shibcharan Debbarma, and Advisor Laxman Debbarma stated that they expect a swift investigation and strict action against the culprits. They warned that if justice is delayed, the journalists of the subdivision may launch a larger protest.
