Three arrested over 56,000 cash theft at Shibnagar

Agartala, 14th September 2026 :  Police have arrested three persons in connection with the theft of ₹56,000 from a goods vehicle in the Shibnagar area of Agartala. The police have so far recovered ₹10,000 of the stolen cash and are now working to identify and apprehend other members allegedly linked to the gang.

According to Maharaj Ganj Market Police Outpost OC Dipankar Debnath, the incident took place around 11 am on September 12 near Lotus Club in Shibnagar. A bag containing ₹56,000 in cash along with one or two cheques had been kept near the driver’s seat of a goods vehicle. While the vehicle owner and driver were engaged in loading goods at the rear, an unidentified person allegedly entered the vehicle and fled with the bag.

After the theft came to light, a case was registered and an investigation was launched. Police subsequently apprehended one suspect and recovered ₹10,000 from his possession. During interrogation, two more alleged accomplices were identified and arrested.

The arrested persons have been identified as Sagar Roy, son of Manoj Roy and a resident of the Jogendranagar-Vidyasagar area, along with Bishal Saha and Jumon Mia. Police traced the suspects near the Lalmatia Bipani Bitan Market Society.

OC Debnath said police have identified another eight to nine persons who are allegedly associated with the group. Efforts are underway to arrest them. He added that the suspects are mainly involved in collecting and selling plastic and other waste, while their possible involvement in other criminal activities is also being investigated.

The three arrested accused are scheduled to be produced before the court today. Police are continuing efforts to recover the remaining stolen money and apprehend all those allegedly involved in the conspiracy.
