Agartala, 20th April 2026: Tripura Police have arrested three individuals in connection with an alleged attack on BJP MLA Abhishek Debroy during the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections held on April 12 in Gomati district.
According to Amarpur Sub-Divisional Office official Debanjali Roy, the incident occurred around 10:30 AM while the MLA was travelling towards Tulamura in the Matabari area. She stated that as the convoy reached near a forest office area, unidentified miscreants allegedly attacked the vehicle carrying the MLA.
The official added that the driver attempted to move the vehicle away from the scene, but the attackers reportedly struck again during the escape attempt, causing damage to the MLA’s vehicle.
Following a complaint lodged in connection with the incident, police arrested three persons identified as Vivekananda Debbarma, Narayan Jamatia, and Mani Sadhan Jamatia. Officials said that during preliminary questioning, they were found to be supporters of the Tipra Motha Party.
Police said the investigation is still underway to ascertain further details and to determine whether more individuals were involved in the incident.
