Agartala, 7th September 2025 :  Despite heightened surveillance along the India-Bangladesh border, incidents of illegal infiltration continue to surface in Tripura. On Saturday morning, police from Shilachhari Police Station detained three Bangladeshi nationals from Ailmara Bazar area under Karbook subdivision.

Acting on a tip-off, police noticed three persons roaming suspiciously in the market area and detained them. During initial questioning, the trio claimed to be Indian citizens and even produced certain identity documents to support their claim. However, upon further interrogation, they admitted to having illegally crossed the border from Bangladesh for medical treatment. They also revealed that they had paid Rs 6,000 to cross the border.

The detainees have been identified as Ashok Kumar Chakma, his son Bimal Chakma, and nephew Pragati Chakma. Ashok Kumar Chakma confessed that they had entered India from Bangladesh to seek medical treatment.

Interestingly, while Pragati Chakma also admitted to entering India illegally, he was found carrying documents showing Indian citizenship. Police are investigating whether the documents are genuine or forged.

Shilachhari Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Laxbir Jamatia, informed that after completing all necessary formalities, two of the Bangladeshi nationals will be pushed back to Bangladesh through the BSF by Saturday night.
