Agartala, 11th September 2026 : Cattle theft has triggered panic among livestock owners in the West Kanchanmala area under Amtali police station after thieves allegedly stole three cows from three houses in the same locality late Thursday night.
According to the victims, the thieves broke into the cattle sheds of Paresh Majumdar, Prabir Majumdar and Prashanta Chowdhury and fled with one cow from each household. The approximate market value of the stolen cattle has been estimated at around Rs 2.5 lakh.The theft came to light on Friday morning when family members went to the cattle sheds to release the animals. Finding the cows missing, they raised an alarm, following which local residents gathered at the spot. The matter was subsequently reported to Amtali Police Station. Police personnel reached the area and began an investigation into the incident.
The victims alleged that the thieves had targeted several other houses in the locality on the same night and attempted to steal cattle from them as well. However, those attempts were reportedly unsuccessful.Local residents said that a similar series of cattle thefts had occurred in the area near Kanchanmala Bazar around two years ago, when several cows were stolen from different households using a similar modus operandi. The recurrence of cattle theft in the area has now raised fresh concerns among livestock owners.
Victim Paresh Majumdar said that his family depends largely on the income generated from selling milk. He reportedly sells around five litres of milk every day, and the loss of his cattle has put him under considerable financial and mental distress.
Following the incident, cattle owners in the locality have expressed concern over the possibility of further thefts. The victims have urged police to intensify their investigation, recover the stolen cattle and arrest those involved in the crime.
