Agartala, 26th November 2024:   A delegation from the Tripura Human Rights Organization visited photojournalist Sujit Acharya at the trauma center of GB Hospital, where he is being treated for injuries sustained in an attack by a group of miscreants.

The delegation spoke to Acharya to understand the details of the incident, which has raised serious concerns about law and order in the state.

Lawyer Purushottam Roy Barman, representing the Tripura Human Rights Organization, condemned the attack and demanded justice for Acharya.

He stated that the photojournalist managed to escape from the assailants, but the incident pointed to a larger issue of lawlessness in the state.

Barman expressed his concern that such violent incidents were indicative of a “mafia rule,” where miscreants felt emboldened due to the lack of legal enforcement and accountability.

According to Barman, the assailants acted with impunity, believing they had the protection of a system that does not uphold the rule of law. The organization is now calling for strict action against the perpetrators and for the government to restore law and order.
