Agartala, 9th  February 2026 :  Sonamukhi witnessed a significant administrative milestone today as Labour Minister Tinku Roy formally laid the foundation stone for the Unakoti District Office of the Labour Department. The ceremony, held in the Jalai Gram Panchayat area, was attended by key dignitaries including District Council Chairman Amlendu Das, District Magistrate Dr. Tamal Majumdar, Council Member Bimal Kar, and senior officials from various administrative branches. Labour Commissioner Biswajit Pal delivered the welcome address.

Speaking at the event, Minister Roy highlighted that the district’s labour offices had long been scattered across different locations. The new office will consolidate all branches under one roof, streamlining services for the public and ensuring faster, more transparent delivery. He further noted that development projects worth nearly Rs 100 crore are currently underway in Sonamukhi, with plans to transform the area into a well-planned township within two years. Infrastructure for the District Magistrate’s office, Tourism Department, and a future Transport Department office is also being developed. “Bringing administrative offices together is aimed at improving service quality and accelerating development,” Roy said, adding that the projects will bring sweeping socio-economic changes to the region.

This dual announcement—strengthening administrative infrastructure and expanding social welfare—marks a pivotal step in Sonamukhi’s journey toward becoming a hub of governance and development.
