Agartala, 25th August 2026 : Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Tuesday said that no formal discussions had taken place with his party regarding an electoral alliance so far, while making it clear that the interests and rights of Tripura’s indigenous people would remain the party’s top priority.
Pradyot said neither he nor the party had received any official communication from political parties seeking an alliance. He added that Tipra Motha would not enter into an alliance simply for political gains if it failed to secure meaningful safeguards for indigenous people.
“If leaders get something and my indigenous people don’t get anything, I don’t think I want to do such politics,” he said.
He said any national party interested in joining hands with Tipra Motha would have to provide a clear commitment towards protecting the rights, land and future of the state’s indigenous population. Without such assurances, he questioned how the party could seek the support of indigenous voters.
Pradyot said the party would wait until the elections are formally announced before taking a final decision on the alliance issue. If no agreement is reached, Tipra Motha is prepared to contest the elections independently, he said.
“We have contested the TTAADC election alone, the Assembly election also, and we will contest the Village Council election alone,” Pradyot stated.
He also dismissed the perception that Tipra Motha’s political movement was directed against the Bengali community in Tripura. According to him, the party’s struggle is centred on protecting indigenous land, identity and future rather than opposing any particular community.
“We are not fighting with Bengalis in Tripura. We are fighting to protect our land and to protect our future,” he said.
Pradyot also raised concerns over the alleged entry of people from Bangladesh and referred to developments in Patharkandi and other parts of the region while speaking about demographic changes.
At the same time, he assured that non-tribal residents living within areas under the Autonomous District Council would not be deprived of their legitimate rights. Those residing peacefully and lawfully in the region, he said, would continue to receive legal protection.
Pradyot maintained that Tipra Motha’s objective was to safeguard indigenous interests while ensuring peaceful coexistence and equal protection for all communities living in Tripura.
