Agartala, 3rd April 2026:
The Nalchhari area under the 27 East Muhuripur Bhuratali constituency turned into a battlefield on Friday as political tensions erupted during a BJP election rally. The meeting, attended by former MLA Shankar Roy, was allegedly attacked by supporters of the Tipra Motha party.
According to BJP leaders, Tipra Motha supporters armed with sticks stormed the gathering, sparking chaos and violence. The party’s campaign vehicle was reportedly vandalized in broad daylight, leaving it shattered. Panic spread among local residents and BJP workers as the situation escalated rapidly.
Police forces rushed to the spot and managed to bring the situation under control. Former MLA Roy and other party members were escorted to safety under police protection. Authorities have since deployed additional forces in the area to prevent further unrest.
The incident follows a recent attack on the vehicle of Minister Bikash Debbarma and Kamalpur MLA Manoj Kanti Deb, raising serious concerns about security arrangements in the hills ahead of the polls.
