Agartala, September 15: TIPRA Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman has said that two of his party members, Dinesh Debbarma and Sridham Debbarma, left the party after being denied tickets in the last assembly elections. He made this statement at the airport after returning to the state on Friday.
He also said that the ideology of TIPRA Motha is different from that of CPIM and BJP, and that the party’s goal is to achieve ‘Greater Tipraland’ for the indigenous people of Tripura. He claimed that he has been meeting the Union Home Minister and other leaders of the ruling party to press for this demand, despite being in the opposition.
He said that he does not care about the party’s popularity or electoral prospects, but only about the welfare of the ‘Tiprasa’ community. He vowed to continue his struggle for constitutional rights and ‘Greater Tipraland’ as long as he lives.
However, political observers have noted that TIPRA Motha has lost its strength and influence after the last assembly elections in 2023, where it won only 13 seats out of 60. The party has not announced any candidates for the upcoming by-elections, which is seen as a sign of its weakness. Some sources have also said that Pradyot Kishore Debbarman had declared that the 2023 elections would be his last political battle.
