Meghalaya police on Friday arrested two inter-state drug traffickers after heroin worth Rs 5.5 Crore was seized from their possession.
Acting on a tip-off, sleuths of the Anti Narcotic Task Force intercepted two tourist vehicles proceeding towards Shillong from Mizoram at Nongsning checkpoint in East Jaintia Hills district.
“During the search of the first vehicle bearing Meghalaya registration number ML-05-M-1597, the ANTF seized 43.33 grams of heroin packed in four soap boxes and another 516.43 grams of heroin was seized from the second vehicle bearing Mizoram registration number MZ-01-K-3872,” Jagpal Singh Dhanoa, the district police chief said.
The arrested drug traffickers have been identified as Lorence Zomuanpuia and Lalmalsawa.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has applauded the relentless drive led by LR Bishnoi and his team in curbing the drug menace in the state.
He said the crusade against drugs will continue unabated till this menace is extirpated from the state.
Police have registered a case under NDPS Act besides other sections of the IPC.
