Agartala, 5th November 2024: The President of the Tripura Journalists Union and former Secretary of Agartala Press Club Pranab Sarkar on Tuesday wrote a letter to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha highlighting the healthcare challenges faced by journalists and their families in the state.
“You must be aware that journalists working in the state and their family members get physically sick from time to time. They have to come to GB Hospital, the main hospital of the state, for treatment. Many times it is seen that they do not get beds for medical services. Many have to lie on the ground as well,” Sarkar stated in his letter.
He emphasized the need for reserving at least one cabin for journalists and their families at GB Hospital to ensure they receive timely and adequate medical care. “In such a situation, if at least one cabin is reserved for journalists and their families, then journalists will be especially benefited,” he added.
Sarkar also drew attention to the recently launched Chief Minister Ayushman Yojana, which aims to provide healthcare benefits to citizens, including journalists. However, he pointed out that the scheme is not being given due importance at ILS Hospital. “I believe that you will investigate this matter and take necessary measures. Especially under the Ayushman scheme, ILS hospitals will provide free treatment for journalists,” Sarkar urged the Chief Minister.
The letter highlights the pressing need for improved healthcare facilities for journalists in Tripura, ensuring they can access medical services without undue hardship.
