Agartala, 25th February 2025 : In a major step towards transparency and fairness, Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited (TNGCL) is set to implement a structured pay system for its contractual employees.
For years, TNGCL’s contractual employees faced uncertainty as their wages were determined annually through tenders, often leading to protests and negotiations.
However, Pralay Patra, the Managing Director of TNGCL, has decided to bring stability to the system by introducing a structured pay scale based on Central government’s minimum wages.
“Such a pay structure, where wages are arbitrarily decided between contractors and employees, is unprecedented. Since taking charge as MD last year, I have aimed to establish a transparent system,” Patra stated.
Under the new framework, employees will be categorized into four groups—highly skilled, skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled. Wages will be revised every six months as per Central government regulations.
Addressing concerns raised by employees, Patra acknowledged that some workers, despite having years of experience, may not qualify as highly skilled due to a lack of formal education. To accommodate them, TNGCL has decided to conduct interviews with technical experts to assess their competencies and place them accordingly.
“We are committed to ensuring that the right people get the right pay. We are following Central government guidelines and will finalize the decision after the upcoming board meeting. The new pay structure will come into effect from March 1,” he confirmed.
The move is expected to bring long-term benefits by eliminating wage-related uncertainties and fostering a more structured work environment within TNGCL.
