Agartala, 11th April 2025: A pall of gloom has descended over Belonia following the tragic death of a toddler who accidentally consumed kerosene mistaking it for water.
The victim, identified as Shibani Debnath, was playing at a neighbor’s house on Wednesday when the incident occurred. According to her father, the two-year-old accidentally drank kerosene kept in a container, believing it to be water. Family members, who were nearby, noticed the incident and rushed her to Belonia Hospital.
Despite immediate medical attention, Shibani could not be saved. Doctors at the hospital confirmed that the child collapsed soon after and was declared dead.
The heartbreaking incident has raised concerns about household safety and the need for proper storage of hazardous substances, especially in homes with young children.
Local residents and neighbors have expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing Shibani as a cheerful and playful child.
