Toddler drowns in pond while retrieving toy gun at Jamjuri

Agartala, 3rd November 2025:   A two-year-old boy tragically drowned in a pond on Monday afternoon while trying to retrieve a plastic toy gun, casting a pall of grief over Rajdharnagar village in the Jamjuri Gram Panchayat of Gomati district.

The child identified as Shubham Sarkar was the only son of Shanti Sarkar. Local sources informed that Shubham had been playing in the courtyard of his home when his toy gun accidentally fell into the nearby pond. In an attempt to retrieve it, he slipped and fell into the water, disappearing beneath the surface.

When family members and neighbors noticed the child was missing, they launched a frantic search. His lifeless body was later spotted floating in the pond. Shubham’s mother, who witnessed the scene, immediately pulled him out and rushed him to Gomati District Hospital, hoping he could be revived. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The incident has left the entire village in shock. Neighbors described Shubham as a cheerful and beloved child, and his sudden death has created a somber atmosphere throughout the community.

Local authorities have confirmed that the incident appears to be a tragic accident. Police have completed the post-mortem and handed over the body to the grieving family.

Rajdharnagar remains steeped in sorrow as residents mourn the untimely loss of a young life.
