Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announces 12,300 crore boost for Tripura Tourism under ‘Destination Tripura’ drive

Date:

Agartala, 11th July 2026:   The state government’s flagship initiative Destination Tripura concluded today at the Hapania Fair Grounds, drawing investors from across India. Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced that while the government had set an investment target of ₹15,000 crore for the tourism sector, interest worth over ₹12,000 crore has already been expressed. “We have signed 33 MoUs amounting to approximately ₹12,300 crore in tourism alone. Our focus now is on ensuring these projects are implemented on the ground,” he said.

Chowdhury highlighted that the overall investment target of ₹1 lakh crore has been surpassed, with proposals totaling ₹1.22 lakh crore across sectors, including electric vehicle manufacturing units in transport. He praised the initiative as “an unprecedented effort by the state government” and expressed confidence in the Tourism Department’s ability to harness Tripura’s potential in spiritual, adventure, eco, and hospitality-based tourism.

Referring to recent developments, the Minister noted the Union Home Minister’s foundation stone laying for a hotel at Pushpavant Palace, expected to be operational within two years. Several resorts under the Tourism Department are also slated to open within six to twelve months. Proposals for wellness centers and village adoption schemes are expected to boost tourist footfall and create livelihood opportunities for local youth.

Chowdhury emphasized that land availability remains a crucial factor, given Tripura’s extensive forest cover. “We need to deliberate on land allocation with the Chief Minister and also seek intervention from the Central Government,” he said, adding that today’s interactive session with investors was a preliminary step toward holistic development. “Through the leadership of the Chief Minister and the Industries Department, we aim to steer Destination Tripura in the right direction and make the state self-reliant in every aspect, including the economy.”
