Agartala, 22nd December 2025:   The Tripura Peoples Party and Gan Mancha today staged a four-hour sit-in demonstration in front of Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan here protesting what they termed as “anti-people policies” of both the central and state governments.

Leaders of the organizations alleged that the country is facing a deep crisis, accusing the elected government of pursuing policies in a “fascist manner.” They cited privatization, rising prices, unemployment, saffronisation of education, anti-farmer and anti-worker measures, and increasing communal divisions as examples.

The groups further claimed that the introduction of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is part of a conspiracy to deprive millions of legitimate citizens of their voting rights. They pointed to the Bihar Assembly elections, where names of lakhs of valid voters mostly tribals, Dalits, OBCs, minorities, and opposition supporters were allegedly removed. Similar processes, they warned, have begun in Tripura, West Bengal, and Assam, aimed at consolidating BJP’s power and weakening the federal structure of the country.

The new labour codes introduced by the Centre were also denounced as “anti-worker,” with allegations that they curtail rights to form trade unions, strike, and bargain for minimum wages. Likewise, the organizations criticized the proposed seed and electricity bills as harmful to farmers and ordinary citizens.

Accusations were also levelled against the state government for suppressing democratic rights. The groups claimed attempts are being made to divide workers, farmers, students, youth, women, OBCs, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and minorities, while intensifying repression on protest movements.

As part of a wider campaign, the sit-in demanded cancellation of the SIR process, withdrawal of the labour codes, and reversal of other policies deemed anti-people. The organizers called for active participation from all sections of society to make the movement successful.
