Agartala, 29th December 2025:   Retired Colonel Kush Kumar Sharma, head of the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC), was taken into police custody late Sunday following a heated confrontation at a city hotel where the 2nd Tripura Prabashi Summit was underway. Authorities reported that Sharma, allegedly intoxicated, created a disturbance inside the venue along with his son, obstructing police personnel and disrupting order. He was released on a personal bond early Monday after a medical check.

The dispute reportedly started when security staff of Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury asked Sharma’s driver to move a vehicle blocking the minister’s exit. Witnesses said Sharma reacted angrily, and matters worsened when his son—described as half-clothed—began shouting abuses directed at both the minister and the people of Tripura.

Police sources claimed that Sharma’s wife, daughter, and daughter-in-law also threatened officers on duty. The situation quickly drew senior officials, including IGP (Intelligence) Krishnendu Chakaravorti, SP (West) Namit Pathak, and OC (West Agartala PS) Rana Chatterjee, to the hotel. Minister Chowdhury himself tried to calm the confrontation, but Sharma allegedly challenged his identity and continued the altercation.

As tempers flared, Sharma and his son reportedly clashed with the minister’s security team. Two family vehicles were said to have blocked the hotel exit, temporarily halting the minister’s convoy. Police eventually detained both Sharma and his son to restore order.

In reply to the queries of media personnel, Chairman Colonel Sharma replied “Nothing nothing, I fell down and my finger was broken. No comments.”

Colonel Sharma assumed charge of the TPSC in July 2023 after retiring from the Indian Army. His tenure has been marked by controversy, including earlier allegations of misconduct involving a former High Court judge. Senior officials have acknowledged that ties between the state government and the commission have remained tense since his appointment.
